Happy 2019!

2018 was the year of the 29er for me…

After 4-5 years of indecision I finally pulled the trigger on a full suspension 29er mountain bike in 2018. Wow that was fun and it made me wish I had tried a wagon wheeler earlier. But, perhaps waiting until now gave bike companies the time to perfect their big wheel products and sell me a killer bike.

For 2019 I plan to have many more adventures on my 29er. No major changes planned beyond getting the shock tuned and tweaking the bar width. I’ll probably need a new chain/cassette/chainring by the end of the year, but for now she’s good to go.

The other major bikey change for me in 2018 was getting rid of stuff on my back. My 29er can hold 2 water bottles and a frame bag so I had no need for a hydration pack or even a fanny pack on my rides including longer hot summer shreds. It’s so nice to be able to ride unencumbered I can’t believe it took me so long to see the light. No changes planned in terms of water or gear I carry on rides in 2019. I pretty much have it dialed.

I had planned two desert trips in 2018 and both got cancelled. One because I punched a tree and hurt my hand badly. The other due to a crisis at work. I did get down to Moab for a couple days, but last year was my worst year for desert riding in a long time. For 2019 I hope to get down there twice…spring and fall. I also hope to explore the mainland riding destinations close to me a little more. I’m thinking Bellingham to Pemberton with all the usual stops in between.

Beyond that I’ve got nothing special planned for this coming year. Just lots of hanging out with people I like, riding bikes and drinking some delicious beers. A simple, but awesome life.

I hope everyone reading this post has an amazing 2019. Best wishes for the new year. 🙂

  1. Happy 2019 Man!! Hope your two desert trips work out this year.

I’ll be doing what local riding I can and hopefully hitting a few new spots throughout the Mid atlantic and some south east.

Hopefully 2020 will see a return to the desert and a new Full Suspension ride!
